Ink, watercolour, gouache on Arches paper.

I was going for a 'stage scenery' effect and the cross hatched background was a further indication that everything is mapped out for this little boat, but the driver has other ideas.

The boat itself is based loosely on a sketch of one moored in the Grand Union canal at Uxbridge.

The reigning back of colour and 'distressing' of the surface was done with sandpaper, which the remarkble Arches paper can accommodate quite happily.
